China-based firm, Jinko Solar, has secured a contract from engineering firm, Vinci Energies, to supply solar equipment for the 52.42 MW Ferke Solar Power Plant in the Ferkessedougou region of Ivory Coast.

The project, launched in January and worth $65 million, is expected to generate 60 GWh of electricity annually which will be enough to power  over 370,000 homes and create more than 600 jobs.

The project is set to support Ivory Coast’s target of 45% renewable energy by 2030. The government seeks to stabilise the grid and reduce fossil fuel reliance through this project.

Funding for the project comes from The Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF) and the West African Development Bank which have both injected €52 million into the project since December 2024.

Jinko Solar will be providing 74,644 pieces of its cutting-edge N-type TopCon Tiger Neo modules (model: JKM715-66HL5-BDV), known for their superior efficiency, durability, and performance in high-temperature, high-radiation environments typical of the West African region.

Other solar projects in Ivory Coast

Meanwhile, Katiola Solar Power, a JC Mont-Fort subsidiary, is building a 50 MW plant in Katiola, Ivory Coast. The project, billed at $52.69 million, reflects the private sector’s growing role in renewable energy investment.

Last year, Ivory Coast inaugurated the 37.5 MW Boundiali solar plant which powers 70,000 homes and reduces CO2 emissions by 60,000 tonnes yearly.

Dubai-based AMEA Power is also working on the 50-megawatt (MW) Bondoukou solar PV power plant in Ivory Coast, according to a recent report.

The project, located in the north-eastern region of Gontougo, is set to generate 85 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean energy annually, enough to power approximately 358,000 households.

The project will also offset more than 52,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, contributing to the fight against climate change.

The $60 million project is being financed by FMO and DEG, two prominent development finance institutions, and is expected to play a pivotal role in supporting the Ivorian government’s goal of increasing the share of renewable energy in its electricity mix to 45% by 2030.
