Electricity distribution companies (DisCos) in Nigeria have made a total revenue of N178.68 billion in January this year, data from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has shown.

In the Commercial Performance of Distribution Companies fact-sheet published by NERC, the total billing for January 2025 amounted to ₦250.21 billion, while revenue collected was ₦178.68 billion, resulting in a 71.41% revenue collection efficiency rate by DisCos.

However, the January revenue collection rate declined from December 2024’s rate by 3.29%.

The fact-sheet also showed that the total energy received by DisCos was 2,493.42GWh while the 2,260.34GWh was the total energy that was billed, resulting in an 80.92% billing efficiency rate.

This billing efficiency rate however dropped by 2.53% in comparison with the billing efficiency rate of the previous month.

ATC&C loss target approval

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission also announced the approval of the 2025 ATC&C loss targets for  DisCos.

The average ATC&C loss targets for 2025 is 20.54%. The 2025 average ATC&C targets have however dropped by 4.19% in comparison with the 2024 average target of 24.73%.
The targets vary for each DisCo.

ATC&C losses refer to Aggregate Technical, Commercial, and Collection losses, which are inefficiencies in the electricity distribution system that lead to energy and revenue losses.

The ATC&C loss is the difference between the amount of electricity received by a distribution company from the transmission company and the amount of electricity for which it invoices its customers plus the adjusted collections loss.

Here’s a more detailed breakdown of the 2025 ATC&C loss targets per DisCo.
