Angola’s Minister of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, has extended an invitation to South African business leaders, encouraging them to explore investment opportunities in the country’s rapidly growing mining sector.

Azevedo made this known in a statement during ‘Angola Day’ at Indaba Mining 2025, which was held from February 3 to 5 in Cape Town, South Africa.

Speaking at the event, Azevedo said Angola has vast untapped mineral resources, including gold, copper, iron, niobium, rare earths, and heavy sands.

He urged investors and geologists to explore new opportunities in igneous and carbonatitic complexes, as well as the extension of the Copperbelt.

“Despite over 100 years of diamond exploration, there are still undiscovered mineral resources in Angola,” Azevedo said. “We are committed to creating a transparent and stable regulatory framework that protects investments and encourages long-term business growth.”

He also mentioned the planned implementation of the Digital Minas Gerais Registration System (CMA), which aims to streamline regulatory processes and boost investor confidence.

Azevedo said Angola is also seeking service providers to support the sector’s rapid growth beyond mining companies. He noted that as exploration activities expand, opportunities are emerging in logistics, technology solutions, and operational services.

The event also featured industry leaders from major mining companies, including De Beers, Sodiam, Rio Tinto, Nobonga, Shining Star, Anglo American, Angolytio, and Ivanhoe. They shared their experiences operating in Angola and discussed the country’s potential as a key mining investment destination.

Angola has recently signed a mining investment contract for diamond exploration in Lunda-Norte (Kimberlites) with the National Agency of Mineral Resources, Endiama, and NDuma. According to Azevedo, this agreement is part of the government’s efforts to expand the mining sector and attract international partnerships.

“Come to Angola, and we will welcome you with open arms to establish mutually beneficial relationships,” he said.
