BW Energy has announced a significant oil discovery on the Bourdon project within the Dussafu Licence offshore Gabon, characterized by good reservoir quality.
The company released this announcement on Friday through a press statement signed by Brice Morlot, CFO of BW Energy.
Carl K. Arnet, CEO of BW Energy, stated that the Bourdon appraisal well again confirms the significant resource potential of the Dussafu licence, which holds multiple additional prospects.
This discovery will allow the Company to register new reserves that were not included in its 2024 Statement of Reserves.
The Gamba formation represents the largest hydrocarbon column discovered to date in the Dussafu license, with an estimated 34 meters of pay within a 45-meter total hydrocarbon column, confirmed by analysis of logging data and formation pressure measurements.
The Norve jack-up rig drilled the well to a depth of 4,135 meters.
However in December 31, 2024, BW Energy held 229.2 million barrels of oil equivalent in 2P reserves across its Gabonese and Brazilian licenses.
Notably, the Kudu field offshore Namibia is excluded from this figure.
Bourdon concludes the ongoing Dussafu drilling campaign, which, alongside the six existing wells at the producing Tortue field, has yielded eight new production wells and four significant oil discoveries within the Hibiscus/Ruche hub.
This campaign has increased the block’s total gross production to approximately 40,000 barrels of oil per day.
Carl Arnet further commented on the company’s oil discovery, stating:
“We will now carefully review the drilling results, but initial data indicates the potential for establishing a new development cluster with a production facility following the MaBoMo blueprint. We are evaluating a second sidetrack to further appraise the discovery.”
The MaBoMo plant is situated 7.5 kilometers southeast of Bourdon, while the BW Adolo FPSO is located roughly 15 kilometers west.
