The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) has appointed Kwame Tow Amoah as its acting chief executive officer, effective February 17, 2025.
This was disclosed in a statement by the corporation on Monday.
Amoah takes over from Edward Abambire Bawa, who has been reassigned as the managing director and group CEO of GOIL.
GNPC noted that Amoah brings extensive experience in the oil and gas sector, having previously served as the deputy chief executive at GNPC and advisor to the minister of energy.
According to the statement, he was also the director of petroleum at the Ministry of Energy and has chaired and participated in several national and international industry boards and committees.
The statement added that Amoah played a key role in Ghana’s victory in the Maritime Boundary Case on September 23, 2017, serving as a technical advisor. His contributions to international arbitration cases have been instrumental in securing significant investments and financial savings for GNPC and the country.
“Amoah’s leadership has helped position Ghana as a major oil-producing country. His efforts have led to successful exploration projects and the attraction of foreign investments into the sector,” the statement said.
GNPC further reported that Amoah was a key figure in securing approximately $7 billion in investment for the Sankofa Oil and Gas Development Project. This included $700 million in partial risk guarantees from the World Bank to support Ghana’s energy sector.
The new acting CEO holds an MBA from IMD, Switzerland, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Statistics from the University of Ghana. He has also participated in several international leadership and energy management training programs.
GNPC congratulated Amoah on his appointment and expressed confidence in his ability to drive the corporation’s strategic vision forward.
