Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos) in Nigeria have announced new prices for various electricity meter models.

The new prices, scheduled to take effect on January 15, 2025, are in line with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission’s (NERC) order on deregulation of meter prices under the Meter Asset Providers (MAP) Scheme.

This fresh price hike comes on the heels of a previous price hike announced in November, 2024.

An analysis of the documents revealed that meter prices vary across DisCos, influenced by vendors and meter models (single-phase and three-phase).

Prices of various meters by DisCos

Eko DisCo placed the price of its Single Phase Meter between N135,987 and N146,295, while a Three Phase Meter was pegged between N226,825 and N240,584.

Ibadan DisCo placed the prices of Single Phase Meter between N123,625 and N138,166, while its Three Phase Meters are between N219,525 and N231,192.

Kaduna DisCo said that customers will pay between N129,000 to N138,973 for its Single Phase Meters, while its Three Phase Meters will cost between N215,000 and N247,250.

Ikeja DisCo announced its Single Phase Meters to cost between N135,987 and N145,608, while its Three Phase Meters will cost between N226,110 and N268,750.

Moreover, Abuja DisCo said customers will have to pay between N130,075 to N146,295 for its Single Phase Meters and N217,252 to N258,000 for its Three Phase Meters.

Benin DisCo, on the other hand, revised its Single Phase Meters to be between N130,644 and N145,608 while its Three Phase Meters are between N219,565 and N228,378.

On its part, Port Harcourt DisCo pegged its Single Phase Meter prices to be N135,000 while its Three Phase Meter is N227,000.

Yola DisCo said its prices for Single Phase and Three Phase Meters are N139,625 and N217,065 respectively.

According to NERC’s latest order, meter prices under the MAP scheme will now be determined through competitive bidding rather than being centrally regulated. This shift is expected to foster greater competition among meter providers, ultimately improving cost efficiency and service delivery for end-users.
