The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a groundbreaking achievement in the nation’s power sector, marking a new peak in electricity generation and the highest daily energy supply ever recorded.

This milestone reflects the ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s power infrastructure and meet the growing energy demands of its population.

In a statement on Tuesday, TCN said this generation peak figure surpasses the previous record of 5,543.20 MW, set on February 14, 2025, by 170.40 MW.

While this new peak is slightly below the all-time high of 5,801.60 MW recorded on March 1, 2021, the TCN said it represents a significant step forward in the sector’s progress.

“Although this new peak is lower than the all-time maximum peak generation of 5,801.60MW recorded on March 1, 2021, by 88MW, it remains a notable achievement” the statement reads.

The achievement highlights the continuous improvements in power generation and transmission infrastructure, as well as the dedication of stakeholders to enhance the reliability of electricity supply across the country.

In addition to the new generation peak, the power sector also set a historic record for daily energy supply.

On the same day, a total of 125,542.06 megawatt-hours (MWh) of electricity was transmitted, breaking the previous record of 125,159.48 MWh achieved on February 14, 2025, by 382.58 MWh. This marks the highest daily energy ever delivered in the history of Nigeria’s electricity industry.

The milestone reflects the sector’s ability to sustain higher energy output over a 24-hour period, a critical factor in meeting the growing demand for electricity across the country.

The TCN attributed these achievements to the collaborative efforts of power generation companies, distribution companies, and other stakeholders in the sector.

The company emphasized that these milestones are a testament to the ongoing investments in infrastructure upgrades, grid stability, and operational efficiency.

These improvements are critical for addressing the persistent challenges in Nigeria’s power sector and ensuring a more reliable electricity supply for homes, businesses, and industries.

This achievement comes at a time where Nigeria is grappling with power sector crises ranging from grid instability to infrastructure vandalism
