Nigerian oil firm, Oando Plc, has announced the appointment of Mr. Cosmas Iweze as the independent non-executive director of the company, effective December 16, 2024.

This was disclosed in a statement by the companyโ€™s spokesperson, Ayotola Jagun, on Tuesday in Lagos.

Jagun stated that the appointment aligns with Oandoโ€™s Article 88 of Association.

He further noted that Iweze is a seasoned petroleum engineer and business leader with over three decades of experience in the oil and gas industry.

โ€œOando PLC (โ€œOandoโ€ or the โ€œCompanyโ€) wishes to inform its shareholders and other stakeholders that the Board of Directors has appointed Mr. Cosmas Iweze as an Independent Non-Executive Director, effective 16 December 2024. This appointment is in line with Article 88 of the Companyโ€™s Articles of Association.

โ€œCosmas Iweze is a seasoned petroleum engineer and business leader with over three decades of experience in the oil and gas industry,โ€ Jagun said.

Moreover, listing the past achievement of Iweze, Jagun noted the following:

โ€œJoining Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) in 1990, Cosmas rose through positions of increasing responsibility across Reservoir and Asset Management, Commercial Development, Operations, Project Management, and Business Strategy. He also gained international experience working with Chevron in California and Angola.

โ€œCosmas previously held leadership roles as Business Services Director for Chevronโ€™s Nigeria/Mid-Africa unit, General Manager of Operations, and General Manager of Asset Development and Exploration. Notable achievements include securing third-party financing for JV projects and contributing to national petroleum policy development during a secondment to the Nigerian government.

โ€œPrior to retiring in November 2024, Cosmas served as Director of the NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture (JV), overseeing the JV asset development, major projects as well as oil and gas production with profit and loss accountability. In this role, he led strategic initiatives, managed multiple general managers, and acted as Managing Director when required.โ€
